Adrenaline inhalers for use in Angio-Oedema causing swelling of the inside of the mouth, tongue or back of the throat

The adult dose is 4 puffs at a time on to the affected area; the adrenaline should be kept in the mouth and not inhaled.
The dose can be repeated again in a few minutes if there is no improvement.
If there is no response and the swelling is severe, causing problems with swallowing or breathing then the patient must seek urgent help from a casualty department – dial 999.

Cautions

  • History of heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Thyroid disease
  • Diabetes
  • Difficulty with urination due to enlarged prostate
  • Avoid in pregnancy

Interaction Precaution

  • Do not use if you are taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor usually used for depression.
